COMPLETED BOOTCAMPS

Wilkes-Barre, PA - July 8, 2017
Instructor: Andy Sabisch and Todd Yerks (a.k.a. CTTodd)

We returned to Pennsylvania for another Bootcamp which was held in the city of Wilkes-Barre, PA.  This section of Pennsylvania earned the reputation of the coal rich part of the state and remains of the mining that took place and in fact still takes place can be seen throughout the region.  History is seen at every corner and the Wilkes-Barre - Scranton region showed that "Coal was King".   Todd Yerks, a seasoned detectorist that knows his equipment was an instructor and shared his knowledge in a way that made things click.

Some great finds turned up at the in-field location dating back to the early 1900's.  Considering the location has been hunted for decades, it shows that there are always finds left for hunters with the right equipment and the right techniques.

Winchester, VA - July 1, 2017
Instructor: Andy Sabisch and Hugh Campbell

The third Bootcamp of 2017 was held in the city of Winchester, VA.  This location is in the middle of historic Virginia where American history took hold.  There were more Civil War battles fought on Virginia soil that any other state.  Add to that the rich history dating back to before the Revolutionary War and you have an area rich in history virtually everywhere you go.  Winchester changed hands several times throughout the war and the retreat route for the Union forces after on battle ran in front of the in-field location.   In fact, attendees found several Civil War relics during the in-field session (despite the 95F heat and 100% humidity).

A special word of thanks to Hugh Campbell who served as a co-instructor on this session.  He has mastered his Deus and his finds reflect that.  In fact he has had teh opportunity to participate on archeological surveys of historical properties and shared his expertise with the attendees of this Bootcamp.

PORTAGE, IN - June 3, 2017
Instructor: Andy Sabisch

The second Bootcamp of 2017 was held in the city of Portage, IN.  We have visited the area before and the location was ideal for both attendees and their families that wanted to spend the day in Chicago.  As we found in past Bootcamps, sites one might think have been hunted to death are just waiting for the right detector with the right settings to pull out even more keepers.  Indian Head cents, silver, a few pieces of jewelry and some great 1800's relics turned up as natural finds.  The weather held  and it was a great weekend for all that were able to attend!

Here's a group photo just before we wrapped up the in-field session

GETTYSBURG, PA - March 11, 2017
Instructor: Andy Sabisch

The first Bootcamp of 2017 was held in the historic town of Gettysburg, PA . . . the site where two great armies fought for three days in July 1863.  While the battlefield is mostly under National Park Service control and off limits to detecting, we were able to obtain permission to search a piece of property in the center of town that saw troop movement on the 1st day of the battle.  Several people found a piece of history despite the snow and howling wind that we had to deal with.  We had the opportunity to talk with Gary Blackwell and Alain from XP via Skype and the attendees appreciated that opportunity.

Cincinnati, OH

  Date: JULY 9, 2016
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch

The most recent XP Deus Bootcamp was conducted in Cincinnati, OH on July 9th.  This was a great location close to the Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Dayton and the in-field location produced some great finds dating back into the 1800' including a semi-key date Indian Head penny.  These came from a site that had been pounded by local hunters and written off as worked out . . . getting the Deus dialed-in proved otherwise to the group at the Bootcamp.

This was a great way to kick off the 2016 hunting season and the finds that have turned up since the Bootcamp have been nothing short of impressive!

DOUGLASVILLE, GA
  Date: MARCH 12, 2016
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch

The second Deep South Bootcamp in 2016 was held on March 12th in Douglasville, GA. It was a great central location close to Atlanta, Six Flags and Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield (great for sightseeing but NOT relic hunting).  The facilities are great both to spend the night as well as the classroom session with the in-field location close by.

This was a great way to kick off the 2016 hunting season and the we can't wait to start seeing what those plan to attend turn up after the class!

GULFPORT, MS
  Date: FEBRUARY 20, 2016
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
& Richard Angelico

The first 2016 Bootcamp was held on February 20th in Gulfport, MS, and despite some last minute issues with the hotel we had planned on using, the replacement location was better all the way around and the day turned out perfectly!  We had   great weather the feedback from that that attended was extremely positive.

This was a great way to kick off the 2016 hunting season and the we can't wait to start seeing what those that attended the Bootcamp turn up after the class!

Aberdeen, MD
  Date: October 24, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
and Bob Taylor

The second of two October Bootcamps was held on October 25th in Aberdeen, MD.  The training was held at the Wingate by Wyndham in Aberdeen and the in-field training / hunt was at a site literally within walking distance nearby with test areas, planted targets and natural finds to challenge attendees.  There were some great finds that turned up from the hunt location (non-planted) with the best being an 1827 Large Cent . . . never know what was built on a site that looks brand new.

Feedback was great and hopefully the finds will turn up before winter rolls into town

Portage, IN
  Date: October 3, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch

The first of two October Bootcamps was held on October 3rd in Portage, IN.  After a packed house in June, we returned to Portage for an excellent Bootcamp . . both the classroom portion as well as the in-field session.  Everyone made their way to the hunt location this time and the results showed that despite a number of active hunters in the area as well as a dealer or two, no site is ever worked out.  A number of vintage coins turned up with the oldest being a 1900 V nickel.  An interesting find was a arrow head pendant with a replica of a 1903 Indian Head penny mounted on it.

We are looking forward to feedback from the attendees and hope to see some great finds turn up with the skills honed the Bootcamp.

Knoxville, TN
  Date: August 15, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
and Ron Leonardson

The latest Southern Bootcamp was held on August 15th in Knoxville, IN.  Knoxville is a great destination if you want to bring the family along and the hotel serves as a great jumping off point due to its location.  The training was held at the Ramada Inn - Knoxville and the in-field training / hunt was held at nearby site with test areas, planted targets and natural finds that challenged attendees.

The weather was a tad humid (to say the least) but at least the mosquitoes were no where to be seen.  Some really impressive finds turned up from a site that most local hunters consider worked out including silver coins, Indian Head cents, wheats, relics dating back to the mid-1800's and more

Here's the Bootcamp group as we wound up the in-field session.

Branford, CT
  Date: June 27, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
& Todd Yerks (a.k.a. CT Todd)

The second June Bootcamp was held on June 27th in Branford, CT.  Near the shore of Long Island Sound and centrally located between New York, Boston, Albany and New England, it was the ideal location for a wide range of treasure hunters to connect and learn about the XP Deus.  It was an exciting session for all especially with XP Americas staff in attendance.  The in-field training / hunt was at a nearby site with test areas, planted targets and natural finds to challenge attendees and a number of nice finds turned up with an 1893 Indian Head taking the oldest find of the afternoon.

Portage, IN
  Date: June 13, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
& Brad Short

The June Bootcamp was held on June 13th in Portage, IN.  It was a sold-out event and was well-received based on the feedback from attendees.  The weather held despite the dismal forecast and other than a hoard of mosquitoes, the day was perfect in all aspects.  The test areas were a hit and allowed everyone to try some of the different settings and programs . . . . and see what a difference a slight adjustment could make in detecting different targets at depths of 10" (freshly buried). We are looking forward to seeing what those that attended turn up in the coming weeks and months as they put the material we covered into practice.

Ameila, VA
  Date: April 18, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
& Sal Guttuso

The Virginia Bootcamp was held on April 18th in historic Ameila, VA.  For those that have an interest in the Civil War, this was on the path that the Confederate troops took after they left the Richmond / Petersburg area and headed west . . . ending in Appomattox.  The training will be held at an old Grange which makes a great site to conduct the classroom portion.  The Grange building was originally a 1900-vintage school and some of the finds that turned up during the in-field session attested to that heritage - in fact, one attendee actually recovered the remains of an old student desk (the type with the desk and chair built into one unit).  Some Civil War relics turned up as well.

This was a great way to get the 2015 metal detecting season off to a great start and the feedback from all that attended was 100% positive!

Charlotte, NC
  Date: March 21, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
& Brian Herbstreit

The Charlotte Bootcamp was on March21st and it was a huge difference weather-wise from the original date which was scheduled for February . . . Mother Nature smiled on us as the temperatures were in the 70's and the weather was picture perfect for the in-field session.  The classroom session covered a wide range of hunting applications - coin hunting to beach hunting to relic hunting and the overall consensus was that everyone received information that would help them find more in their area when they returned home.

GULFPORT, MS
  Date: JANUARY 17, 2015
  Instructors: Andy Sabisch
& Richard Angelico

The Deep South Bootcamp was held on January 17,th in Gulfport, MS.  We had an excellent turnout and the addition of several XP dealers was a plus.  The weather warmed up from 35F in the morning at the start of the classroom portion to 65F when we headed out to the in-field portion and did some digging.

The classroom session had great exchanges between instructors and attendees with some great questions and techniques raised for all to benefit from.  The in-field portion was well received . . . with multiple test gardens setup the day before, everyone got a chance to see what the Deus could do under challenging conditions.  There were plenty of natural targets to be found and found they were - wheat cents, some interesting tokens (not planted), trinkets, jewelry along with XP tokens which netted several attendees some top-notch prizes.

This was a great way to kick off the 2015 hunting season and the we can't wait to start seeing what those that attended turn up!

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ
  Date: November 8, 2014
  Instructor: Andy Sabisch

The New Jersey Bootcamp was held on November 8 in East Brunswick, NJ.  The class size was just right to ensure everyone in attendance was able to get their specific questions answered.  A number of "Internet Myths" were debunked and the in-field session helped drive the lessons home when natural and planted targets were checked by attendees.

Despite being November, the weather held and we were not frozen out before we headed back to the hotel for final questions and farewells.

There were a number of great non-planted finds made including an 1883 2 cent piece from Hati (what was that doing in NJ is anyone's guess), several silver coins and a fistful of Wheat cents that one attendee pulled out from a 20'x20' area near an older school building on the site that had to have been hunted 100's of times in the past - shows what the Deus can do especially in high trash!

KNOXVILLE, TN
  Date: September 13, 2014
Instructors: Andy Sabisch & Jeremy Vance

The inaugural Bootcamp was held on September 13 in Knoxville, TN.  The event was exceptional with both the classroom and in-field sessions being well-received.  Attendees were able to ask individual questions and get immediate feedback as to how to address specific problems they had been experiencing.  The in-field session showed attendees how to squeeze the most performance possible from the Deus under a range of conditions.

The weather held and there were some interesting non-planted finds made from the fields - silver coins, wheat cents, a few pieces of jewelry and even a 1946 Tennessee license plate.

Here's a photo of most of the group at the start of the in-field session.
